A thoroughly enjoyable day and a huge congratulations to everyone who participated.
A thoroughly enjoyable day and a huge congratulations to everyone who participated. A group of 38 walkers (and 1 dog) from various companies took on the challenge to support Nottingham Women's Centre. Departing from Winster at 7am, they tackled a 50km trail meticulously mapped out by Paul Bodill, and crossed the finish line between 5pm and 8pm. The overall completion time ranged from 11 hours 20 minutes for the fastest pair (well done, Aiden Bell and Callum Bott from AnotherKind) to 13 hours 30 minutes for the last large group.
Despite a few early morning showers, the weather cleared up, providing great conditions for our hikers with some lovely bursts of sunshine in the afternoon and evening. The route was especially challenging this year, being the longest distance walked in several years (some logged around 33 miles) ,and included about 25% more climbing than in recent years. Of the 38 people who started, 26 completed the full distance, with one walker and the dog leaving halfway to watch the England match (thankfully it was worth it), and a few others retiring at the last couple of checkpoints.
The day was a resounding success, smashing our fundraising target, and we hope to see the total rise even higher as more donations come in. There is still time to support this incredible charity. Please consider donating: https://localgiving.org/fundra...
A special thank you to the checkpoint support team for keeping our walkers hydrated and nourished throughout the day—your support was invaluable!
The event concluded with everyone enjoying a well-deserved drink before heading home for some much-needed rest, although some adventurous hikers continued the fun with a night's camping in Winster.
We hope to see the group grow for next year's Trek for Change! Who will be joining us?
